I design and create vegetable tanned leather bags, hand cut and hand sewn, using the traditional method of saddle stitching with waxed thread.

I've always worked with natural materials, from knitting and weaving with pure wool to painting on silk and basket making with sisal and willow so working with vegetable tanned leather seemed like a natural progression for me.
As a by product of the meat industry the skins would otherwise be discarded and end up in landfill if not put to practical use.
I use vegetable tanned leather which is considered to be eco-sustainable as it has a low environmental impact unlike mass produced chrome tanned leather.
My leather work is a slow and considered craft, hand cut and hand sewn using the traditional method of saddle stitching with waxed thread making a secure seam.
I work from my studio in a small market town in Norfolk.
