About Jo Purdue Cyanotypes

Jo Purdue Cyanotypes

I create exciting cyanotypes mainly using flora found in my garden

As an artist, I love experimenting with different mediums and in September 2022 I discovered Cyanotype Printing, which quickly become my latest obsession!

The technique involves coating paper with light-sensitive chemicals, then laying objects (in my case flora and other natural items found in my garden or on local walks) on top, and then exposing to UV light. The areas exposed to light turn blue, while protected areas remain white. Cyanotypes are known for their rich, deep blues but I like to change the colour palette by adding things like vinegar, bubbles, lemon juice, salt and turmeric before exposing. They're a fascinating blend of science and art!

As well as originals, I offer fine art prints, coasters, cushions and jewellery with my cyanotype designs on. I have been selling my cyanotype art at various events for the last couple of years and my work has travelled as far as America.
