I studied Art & Design in Bootle, Leeds and London & taught art for a couple of decades. I work from my home studio, on the edges of the Peak District and Manchester (and I'm deeply in love with nearby Stockport) (& SW Scotland).
My images always start from life as I love to wander & discover buildings and land or town scapes that intrigue me.
I love the post-industrial architecture of this region, the redbrick buildings - houses, mills etc. And the wild, lonely moorland-scapes.
I also love the challenge of drawing outdoors in changing weather conditions. My drawings are in contrast with my more designed and pictorial prints (which are based on my drawings) but in both I want to convey my sense of the mystery and atmosphere of a building or place, and its past.
I am not an artist who strives for perfection, I want to make art that is as direct and honest as possible, with my own autographic markmaking, not trying to be "realistic".

I have been included in several group exhibitions and had a solo one at the Unity Theatre, Liverpool (my home town), in 2012.

Re cats: I have no cats nowadays, but borrow my daughter's for conversation and nerve-soothing moments.
