Hi, I’m Emily, the person behind I Made It Studio, usually accompanied by George, my dog and largely unhelpful studio assistant.
I started I Made It because I’ve always loved making things, but I also know how easy it is to convince yourself that you’re “not creative” or that you simply don’t have the time.
I wanted to create projects that felt achievable. Something you could pick up for an hour in the evening, take away for the weekend or reach for when you’ve had enough of staring at a screen. Nothing enormous that sits unfinished in a cupboard for the next 20 years.
Needlepoint itself is wonderfully traditional, but I wanted the designs to feel much more modern. I love bold colour, graphic patterns, animal prints, words that make you smile and occasionally ones that might make your granny raise an eyebrow.
That became I Made It Studio: modern needlepoint with a bit of personality, designed to be accessible even if you’ve never picked up a tapestry needle before.
Every design starts here in Kent and there’s a surprising amount that goes on behind the scenes. I stitch and test the designs, try different yarns and materials, work out quantities, write the instructions and put the kits together myself – generally while George supervises from somewhere inconvenient.
The best bit, though, is what happens at the other end.
Someone gets to sit down, make something with their own hands and eventually look at the finished piece and say, “I made that.”
And that’s really where the name came from.
All I Made It Studio kits are designed and packed in my studio in Kent using 100% British tapestry wool.
