About Handmade by Janet

Handmade by Janet

I aspire to William Morris — 'Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.'

Okay so it’s not the most original title for a shop
I live in Northolt and have been making roundels or glass suncatchers and bespoke cards, using designs painted on acetate, since 2005. I particularly enjoy Celtic designs as they are quite challenging and I was lucky to spend a lot of my formative years in Ireland.
I also decoupage items particularly glass items that I buy from charity shops, car boot sales etc. with old comics, pictures in magazines, brochures combined with strawsilk paper to recycle and upcycle.
I started selling items initially at Open days for Friends of Kensal Green Cemetery, Friends of Brompton Cemetery (there is a theme here!) and The Inland Waterways.
In 2012 it all changed when I was medically retired following a brain tumour operation so now, I take days as they come. Making interesting things gives me a reason to stay focused and adds structure to my time.
I love doing commissions – very proud of my one claim to fame - 2 of my Paddington Bear roundels are in Michael Bond’s house. Hope you enjoy looking at my items.
