Drawing has been my passion since I was a child and I am lucky to have turned this passion into a professional business.
My design philosophy is one of simplicity, harmony and elegance, using the clean, uncluttered composition that I think works really well in the contemporary home.
As an artist I examine birds, wild flora and fauna, plus plants that humans like to nurture. My work explores the personal bonds we build through our encounters with the natural world.
I’m inspired by Japanese ink drawing and print making, botanical and avian illustrative prints of the 19th Century and Regency portraiture. My stark, bare background invites the spectator to scrutinise, de-construct and interact with the central subject
I currently work with drawing ink, fine nib ink pens and Japanese calligraphy brushes. I experiment with the surfaces I make my original pieces on as I get different effects depending on the paper I use. Many, many drawings and studies are made before I decide on the right work to make into a print or an item of stationery. These works, with all their idiosyncrasies, are then scanned to be printed on archival paper so that the work will retain its lightfastness and integrity for years to come.
