About Ella Dee Crafts

Ella Dee Crafts

Handmade, eco-friendly and practical products made with love in wild and windy West Wales

Living in the beautiful, picturesque corner of Wales between the counties of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, I’m lucky enough to have miles of scenic walks and sandy beaches on my doorstep, so I can indulge my love of nature and the countryside. My garden keeps me grounded, my dog keeps me busy and my family are the rock on which I’ve built my life.

I've been sewing and crocheting for years - making clothes for my children, making school play costumes, making things I needed around the house. A few years ago, our family challenged each other to ditch the commerciality of Christmas and only give gifts to each other that we had made ourselves. I learned about the Japanese art of Furoshiki, which is the use of gorgeous fabrics to wrap presents (and other things) and started to replace Christmas and birthday wrapping paper with fabric which, if tied properly, makes the presents given rather special. Moving on from this I started making my own bottle and gift bags out of fabric – so much nicer than plastic or cardboard, which ends up in landfill pretty quickly. I now make all kinds of useful and sustainable items and am learning to make new products every week!

My aim is to replace everyday throwaway items with lovingly crafted, washable and reusable alternatives that are not only functional, but look good as well. I also rather like making pretty things, just because I can!
