Dizzie Textiles

Changing poly bags to colour fuelled gorgeousness one WIP at a time

Welcome to my colour fuelled crafty space. My name is Marilynne and the CEO and namesake is Dizzie (the cat).

I want to extend a warm welcome to all communities small, large, coloured or white. The humans’ society class as straight, not so straight and anyone in between. Those labels are your business and I respect you as the unique human being you are. You are welcome here. I’m so glad you stopped by. Welcome to my crafty world.

I started my business in December 2021 and I am a passionate crafter who started to knit when I was 6. Like so many people I was taught by my grandmother who always had something on the needles. A great aunt taught me to embroider, needlepoint and sew. They always seemed to come alive when creating and their passion was infectious. The next generation fuelled by their enthusiasm remains to this day.

I’ve thought about starting my business for many a year and I’ve heard and read all the advice. Look for a niche in the market, a gap, what sells, doesn’t sell and the list goes on. One day I was asked if I would take a stall at a Christmas market and I realised the niche in the market is my creativity and passion. I’m not here to take business from anyone else. I’m here because I love what I make and believe in my designs.

My products are all designed by myself. Where there is a common product such as my baker boy hats (currently only available at markets) the template I use is adapted to my own style and I make the inserts for the brim – all plastic free. The top hats are all originals – there are no patterns. Each one blocked individually. Any item that is hand embroidered is completely free style – there are no templates, guide lines or transfers involved. Each product unique and original. Even my cord bags are all slightly different depending on the fabric available. I created the patterns for the (cord) core range to my own specifications although it’s used more as a template rather than a cookie cutter.

The next range to come out is my ‘offcuts’ range. Although I try to maximise the use of the fabric there’s always going to be some pieces that aren’t large enough to use in the main products. So, a new range was born – Offcuts. Strangely I find working with these pieces the most challenging and rewarding. There’s something exciting about working with a limited resource and taking a pile of ‘scraps’ and turning them into a product. Each piece a work of art and completely unique and original.
The product range is evolving and growing with my business but one thing will always remain and that’s colour. All items are handmade with colours to make you smile.
