About Crafted in Batford

Crafted in Batford

Your go-to destination for handmade gifts and original artwork. Explore our unique creations made from wood, paper, and Epoxy Resin, designed to bring joy and inspiration to your space.

I live in Batford a village located across the river Lea from Harpenden, with my wife and two teenage children.
I have an engineering background so I enjoy making and crafting.
Starting from the material itself rather than forcing a pre-set design. Like a lot of traditional craftspeople approach their work: letting the grain, shape, or even imperfections guide what the final piece becomes.
Working with both wood and something like coconut shells gives you a nice contrast too. Wood (especially on a lathe) invites symmetry and flow, while coconut shells tend to push you toward more organic, irregular forms. That mix can lead to really distinctive pieces. Since I’ve got a toolmaking background, I'm in a strong position to go futher if I want to: combining wood with metal inserts, resin, or even found materials can produce striking results.
