Handcrafted full-grain leather in unusual colours, made by me in Peterborough

Hi, I’m Michael,
Copper & Hide is my one-man leather workshop, based at home in south Peterborough.

I started making leather belts and wrist cuffs because I was tired of what was out there: fast fashion, low quality, throwaway accessories. I also have a habit of thinking “I bet I could do that!”, spending months learning a new skill, making the thing I wanted, and then moving on.

This time was different. I started with a simple black full-grain belt with snap studs, so I could swap in my geeky, definitely-no-longer-cool superhero buckles. Before I knew it, I’d bought more leather and made belts in loads of different colours. Then I started making wrist cuffs for myself, to my surprise, people actually started complimenting them!

So I thought: if I hone my skills and combine proper workmanship with the unique, minimalist styles I like, maybe someone else will like them too. It also turned out I love it. Standing at my self-built workbench (yep, another "I bet I could make that" project), making things and trying new ideas, is where I find my zen.

Now I make full-grain (the highest quality) leather belts, bracelets, cuffs, and keychains in a range of unusual colours, with complementary hardware to choose from. I do have a soft spot for the antiqued copper look, hence the name of the shop.

Everything is cut, stitched, edged, and finished by me, and I buy my leather from UK suppliers wherever I can.

I don't have any pets unfortunately, just a lot of leather off-cuts and a growing pile of tools.
My partner and I do occasionally look after friends’ dogs, though :)

Thanks for stopping by, and for supporting independent UK makers.

Michael
