Cathy McCarthy - Contemporary jewellery designer/maker

Hello, I’m Cathy McCarthy a designer/jeweller living in Southampton, Hampshire. Southampton is close to the beautiful New Forest National Park, which provides much of the inspiration for my designs.

At the heart of my creative practice is bringing my designs to life with; precious metals, traditional jewellery making techniques and high standards of craftwomanship. I love the feeling of making each individual piece, giving each one its own unique character.

Running my own small business is something I really value as it gives me the opportunity to interact with my customers, to ensure that every purchase is an extremely positive experience. As a little "thank-you" each piece comes beautifully gift boxed free of charge.

My design inspiration is taken from nature and inparticular how the changing of the seasons and the weather influence our natural environment. I particularly enjoy taking inspiration from exploring nature both in the City and in the New Forest landscape (which surprisingly includes the sea!). Using abstracted natural textures I create designs which combine beautiful shapes with eye catching surface detail. I also concentrate on how each piece sits on the body when worn, focusing on creating designs which are both beautiful to look at and a pleasure to wear.
