Light has forever been a source of inspiration for me. As a child I remember lying on my back on the bare earth looking at how the sun shone through and between the leaves above me.
My creativity has always involved light and I learnt to draw with light through composition, contrast and focus whilst studying photography. Today, light is imperative to me and my art: not only does it grow the plants that become my negatives, but the sun is my source of exposure.
I create botanical cyanotypes which combine my passions of cultivation and creation. I grow and forage seasonal stems, composing them into three strands of work: repeating Pattern pieces built by layering small blooms; Still Life prints that celebrate how we bring the beauty of nature into our homes; and In The Wild studies honouring layering and tonal differences within the natural environment.
Every print I create is hand-made - each print is different as it is affected not only by my own compositional variations but sunlight conditions and irregularities within the printing process. I love the fact that each print is a slight gamble and I can never fully control the outcome. This reflects the true beauty and unpredictability of nature.
