About Becky Haywood Glass

Becky Haywood Glass

I make pretty things in glass inspired by the British countryside

I am a glass artist working from my studio in the deepest depths of rural Shropshire. I divide my time between melting glass into a beautiful hot "blob" (technical term) cajoling, coaxing and occasionally bullying it into doing what I want in a technique called Flameworking, and working with kiln formed glass, which I use in combination with copper, working from my own drawings to produce evocative scenes showcasing little pieces of my countryside world.

Glass has always been a fascination for me from watching the glassblowers in the lake district when I was young, and I was addicted to working with it from my very first go. I completed a degree in Three Dimensional Design : Glass at the University for the Creative Arts and I have been running my own business making pretty things from glass since 2006.

I am very lucky to live in the middle of nowhere, also know as the Shropshire countryside, I love it here and I am fascinated by the way the landscape constantly evolves around me and the wildlife that we get to see every day. I am a keen photographer and enjoy both photographing and drawing everything around me, many of these drawings are the starting points for my glass designs.

I have three cats, two chickens and a husband.
