I'm a bear and textile artist, designer and creator of unique hand embroidered heirloom keepsake bears and collectables.
I'm happy to send my items direct to a recipient on your behalf and I can personalise or rename bears, just drop me a line.

Using my own Imagination and hands I slowly bring my creations to life, each piece as unique as the one before

I'm Debby, I live in a small village on the East Coast of Yorkshire and work full time as a Bear & Textile Artist.
The little embroidered bears are Bearlescents signature style, hand sewn using a keen eye and my own imagination each one is brought to life very slowly with his or her own unique character and personality.
My head is always buzzing with new ideas so I'm constantly doodling and scribbling and even turn some of them into new designs, designing takes up a lot of my time whether it's for a new bear or bears clothing, a floral design or for new keepsake gifts, not all of them make it to the shelf but I enjoy the process especially when an idea finally becomes reality.
I enjoy working with neutrals, pastel and subdued colourways are my favourites with threads to match the fabric rather than a contrast, soft, calming and delicate often with the addition of gold or silver fine filament threads and petite seed beads.
I often use watercolour paints and pencils to add colour or texture to a piece of fabric and love to work with hand dyed fabrics as each piece it totally unique.
I love the intricate details found in Victorian and Heritage styles and this influence can be seen throughout my work, hand embroidery is my passion and I love to create one off heirloom pieces that will be treasured for many years to come.
The larger mohair and alpaca bears all have unique characters, after a couple of years making plain and dressed bears I've returned to embroidering their paw pads again, my embroidery ìs my signature and what binds all of my creations together.

Designing and creating heirloom bears is a full time passion, when I started my bear making journey in 2014 I could never have imagined the vast number of bears I would go on to create (June 2026 has brought bear number 746 to the table).

I really enjoy creating dolls and love to add all the little details and finishing touches and although currently I'm focusing my time on the bears I'm hoping 2027 will see a return of the dolls again to the shelves and my little Folksy shop.
I've left many of the smaller gifts behind this year to concentrate on my main creations but will be adding a few embroidered hearts and pincushions later in the year.

I was extremely honoured to have my bears chosen for the largest teddy bear magazine in the world (January 2025) 'Teddy Bear Times & Friends', it was definitely one of the highlights since starting this journey. I was also approached by Hochanda TV in 2020 with a view to selling my bear making kits, after plenty of thought I declined the offer but I still feel honoured to have been approached.
