About Baymar Knitwear

Baymar Knitwear

I make traditional kilt hose with my own unique patterns.

I have been knitting kilt socks for many years. I first started knitting socks for my dad who loved them for golf and later decided that because I live in the land of the kilt then it might be an idea to try to make kilt socks.

I really love making them.

Knitting kilt socks seems like a perfect blend of tradition and creativity! It’s not just about making socks, but about crafting something that carries a story, heritage, and a deep sense of craftsmanship. My love for knitting kilt socks probably comes from a few things: the intricate patterns, the tactile pleasure of working with yarn, and the satisfaction of completing a project that’s both functional and beautiful. There's something special about creating socks that tie in with Scottish heritage—those traditional, knee-high pieces that make you think of bagpipes, highland games, and celebrations.
I enjoy the challenge of mastering the techniques that go into knitting these socks, whether it's the cable patterns, the precise shaping, or just getting that perfect fit. There’s also something incredibly meditative about the rhythmic motion of knitting; it’s almost like you're weaving a part of yourself into each stitch. And because kilt socks often require specific yarns and patterns, I get to explore different textures and colours to match the occasion, which probably adds a bit of fun and flair to the process.
