Weird and Whimsical Irish Art

BashfulCat is the home of weird and whimsical Irish art, all handmade in London. Taking inspiration from Irish folklore, language, architecture and nature, it has become my way of bringing all of my favourite parts of our culture to the rest of the world.

Now onto the artist (that's me!)

Hi there! I'm Grace. I'm the owner of BashfulCat and the creator of everything you'll find here. I come from Dunboyne, Co. Meath (that's in Ireland) but I've lived in London since 2021. I'm a freelance costume maker, so most of my professional time either goes into making costumes or making art for BashfulCat. I'm an okay-ish Irish speaker, a D&D player, a keen gardener, a Jim Henson fanatic and a fiend for chocolate raisins.

I started BashfulCat in 2020, originally selling polymer clay earrings (despite the fact my ear piercings have been closed up for many a year). I took a break for a while as I worked on completing my costume degree and eventually returned in 2024, ditching the jewellery for prints, stickers and, of course, Sheela na Gigs. Since then, it's been incredibly fulfilling to see my work be welcomed into homes across the world.
