Unique Arts and Crafts - Printmaking - Photography - Silk Vessels - Handmade Paper - Books

The written word has inspired me since childhood; words and phrases often spark ideas and are sometimes included in my art. Visual art developed in middle life especially during an Access course in Art and Design at Chesterfield College of Art. Real places visited and often photographed evoke certain memories thoughts and feelings. I express these memories and the essential elements of a place or time in my work. Recurring motifs include circles and moons suns trees waves plants

As child rearing was finishing I began to pursue arts and crafts, mainly textile based arts that sometimes featured embroidery, something I learned at school. A love of photography and printmaking grew during my access course in Art and Design, and I began my creative journey.

At various times my shop includes fine art photographs, watercolour and acrylic paintings, hand pulled prints (etchings lino cuts and collographs), silk paper, bowls and hangings, handcrafted paper using recycled materials and hand stitched sketch books.

My single, limited and varied edition prints are often incorporated into mixed media works. I print onto various paper surfaces handmade, Japanese and traditional. I sometimes print onto, or collage my own hand made paper and include organic material or my photographs.

I work mainly in my 'studio' which was our dining room, where I can look out onto the garden, but sometimes I take over various other rooms in the house. I have an old fashioned mangle for printmaking and I love tools, equipment paints and paper which I hoard!

I exhibit locally and sell at crafts fairs and several of my photos are in Sheffield Museums online galleries and am a member of Sheffield Printmakers.

I won two competitions with architectural photos, national (Sheffield cheese grater car park from Practical Photography) and regional (Grade II Listed Building in Sheffield of a conserved cementation furnace from Institution of Civil Engineers) My photos are in a leaflet, ‘Sheffield: A Civilised Place’, a walk around significant civil engineering in central Sheffield.
