About Amaruq Crafts

Amaruq Crafts

I make cool things - large and small, from natural materials.

I'm Matt, I've recently started working from my own wood working workshop, in the countryside on the edge of the South Downs National Park.
I first fell in love with making and crafting way back when I was about five years old and was given my first pocket knife by my Grandma - since then I have gained a pretty strong reputation for pulling logs out of firewood piles because they 'feel special', 'look to have a story' or 'know something'. If I'm outdoors and sat down, I'm usually either whittling, or thinking about whittling.
I'm 45 years old now and since those first pocket knife days I have broadened my experience and skill set dramatically - building everything from wooden cabins, theatre stage sets and full house refurbs to high end commercial and military service vehicles.
And so i find myself here, back to doing work that i love, work that inspires me and reflects my deep seated love for the outdoors and all things wild and natural.
Whilst the years I've spent 'on the tools' have been great, they have taken their toll on my body and I'm done with crawling around in tiny cavities, in (literally) deafening noise and covered in all sorts of harmful substances.
My mantra now is Sustainability. I want to be doing work that I can sustain physically, that can sustain my family financially, and that our precious environment can sustain.

Here we are, at the beginning of that journey, me writing and you reading. Hi! If you've made it to this bit you really ought to have a look at my shop, it's early doors yet so do keep coming back as i get more of my stock listed. Lots of love, Matt x
