Our purpose is to have fun seeing the potential in castaway items, furniture and fabric, then allowing imaginations to run amok with creativity and giggles.
Landfill has subsequently been deprived of what some people perceive to be unloved, unwanted clutter yet I see pieces of furniture yearning for a modern twist to adorn a new home. Classic designs standing out whilst fitting in.
I love the feeling of inspiration brewing in my mind as I transport the unwanted item home - colours, texture, style, era.
I am ably assisted by my family; husband Jason, is renovating cast-off-cast-iron garden bench ends whilst daughters Phoebe and Jody are making-mayhem with pom-poms and crochet. Son Max has been known to pick up a paintbrush on occasion. We have a Young Upcyclers FB site too as I am keen to teach my trio the value of upcycling.
Me? When I'm not writing pension reports, assessing financial compliance or just being Mum, my favourite pass-time is sewing and I am and building a repertoire of crochet stitches. The newest addition to the mêlée is Annie Sloan and her Chalk Paints. Furniture upcycling is proving to be fun and a little fruitful. My family and friends are now sourcing potential finds for me to upcycle and the commissions are taking over our home! I still work and mother but I now also upcycle with a skip-full of imagination, enthusiasm, love and fun.
