Hi and Welcome to the Inky Flower my garden-based studio, in the beautiful Staffordshire Moorlands. This is where you will find me creating work that has been inspired by the many walks around the UK with my fabulous family, a crazy French Bulldog called Dexter or travels in Kitty the VW Van.
Walking is an essential part of my process, I go out for a walk with Dexter every day come rain or shine, it allows the creative juices to flow unhindered. When I am out my camera goes everywhere with me so that I can capture a moment of inspiration, a colour, texture or pattern that will at some point go into my work.
Once I am back in the studio I will look through the many thousand photos I have taken on my walks and I will then play around with a sketch, and experiment with my watercolours and ink to see what magic comes to light before settling down to create the final image.
Whilst the woodland is my favourite place to relax unwind and feel inspired it will be flowers that appear in my work the most,
flowers are a fabulous source of inspiration, and the myriad of colours, textures and patterns are endless. My favourite flower is the humble little daisy, they evoke that feeling of being a carefree, barefoot child dancing in a meadow with nothing but hope and joy to sustain them and who doesn't want to feel young, carefree and go dancing in meadows on warm, long hazy days of summer? I know it's the UK! but a girl can dream and I do occasionally get to live out this moment on my travels.
Quality is of the utmost importance to me and my work so I like to create, design, print, and pack all my work from my home studio to ensure that only the highest-quality work makes it into your home. I use archival paper and printing inks of high quality to create my watercolour and ink illustrations as prints and greeting cards and use plastic-free packaging.
I hope you find an illustration that you love as much as I have enjoyed creating them.
Love Inky xx
