I'm a single mum in my 50s and moved into bricks in 2013 after over 20 yrs offgrid and "on the road", so I could start my business and my daughter could attend school.
I began making my own clothes and customising charity shop clothes in the 1970s as it was the only way to wear Punk clothing, make your own and D.I.Y. was the Punk ethos. Even when I was constantly on the move, with very limited living space in my trucks, bus & caravans I managed to do some sewing. At one point I did have a small business making custom, funky leggings for other travellers which I ran out of a tiny caravan.
I've always been concerned about the environment and the amount of waste that we, as human beings produce. So it seemed logical to me to redesign or reuse textiles and clothing which could otherwise add to the mountain of landfill which is suffocating the Earth, our home.
