I make jewellery that tells stories

Thanks for visiting my shop!

I have always been a true art lover, drawing was my first passion, as a jewellery designer I naturally tend to create jewels which tells stories. I often use designs which take people back to their childhood and make them dream and smile. I like to associate organic shapes with geometric lines. Nature is an inspiration, especially the small details which can be overlooked. I see faces in everything and they appear a lot in my work. All my jewels are made of silver often combined with other materials : resin, wood, gold, stones, pearls… I use many different techniques and like to imagine systems to give movement to my pieces which make them truly unique. Also, after having a new idea, I make a lot of sketches which guide me to choose the best design and the most appropriate technique. I aim to make high quality original pieces which are nice to touch and feel and a joy to wear.

From the age of 15, I focused on art & design subjects at school, which was a real chance and helped me develop my own style. I graduated from a professional school of jewellery and silversmithing in Brittany, this traditional background is a mainstay for my work as a jewellery designer and maker.

After finishing my studies in 2009, I decided to start my own business and I moved to England, I settled in Brighton, I fell in love with the creative and cosmopolitan relaxed vibe of the city. A year later I decided to open my ETSY shop. I work in a jewellery workshop alongside other freelance jewellers which is a real chance to exchange daily with people with the same passion as mine. For the past few years I've been working on my own collections and developed my technical skills, like stone setting and engraving. Generally the time flies when I'm in my workshop, I'm not a morning person but it can be difficult to take me out of the there if I'm working on a new piece. It can get quite addictive and exciting. I can't work without making a mess on my bench using a wide variety of tools. Every tiny tools has a precise use and is personal to each makers. I also need a sketch book and a pencil when I'm creating a new piece, some good music, chocolate is a great bonus. I always like to think about new designs, I often find new ideas late in the night, just before sleeping.

I participate in different craft shows all year round.(http://sylvaineart.com/events-craftshows/) I'm a member of the Sussex guild of designers and makers, the association organises crafts shows and exhibitions in a wide variety of venues in Sussex.

Don't hesitate to contact me for any enquiry. If you want to order a bespoke piece for a special occasion, I'd be happy to discuss your idea, send you sketches and make quotes to suit your budget. see example of past commission on my website (http://sylvaineart.com/categorie-produit/commissions/ )
