Hello, I’m Suzanne, an artist and maker living with my family and mini-schnauzer, Daisy in a beautiful part of North-West England.
I make lovely pocket sized sketchbooks for you to create artwork in, as well as hand-crafted paper envelopes from a variety of paper. I also create my own artwork on paper and in my own hand-made sketchbooks using collage, paint and print-making techniques.
My journey into making my own sketchbooks started a couple of years ago when I was searching for a small, A7 sized sketchbook that I could fit into my pocket to take anywhere with me, something just big enough that I could create daily artworks in but not overwhelming in size that would make me put it down and give up! I’ve always loved working in sketchbooks and I’ve always considered them pieces of art in their own right; they tell the stories of our creativity, changing and progressing with each page you turn, showing the successes and failures along the way.
After trying, but not quite managing, to find a small sketchbook to work in, I decided to have a go at making one for myself. A lot of research and practice later and I’ve been making them using open spine, coptic- binding techniques ever since!
Since then, I’ve also created a whole lot of paper envelopes, often from recycled or repurposed paper, which are extremely handy for stuffing in a sketchbook to keep hold of all those loose bits of paper/ colour swatches/ collage bits that might come in handy in the future!
One thing I love about creating sketchbooks is finding beautiful paper (or sometimes printing my own) to use for the covers. I’m always on the lookout for things I can use and I’m especially attracted to old OS maps, or papers with striking patterns.
You will also find hand-printed greeting cards among items in my shop- these are something new for me, mixing my hand printed designs alongside beautiful, vibrant papers and maps that I’ve sourced and love.
I put a huge amount of thought, creativity and care into everything I make. I reuse and repurpose materials wherever possible and I avoid waste at all costs- it’s just not in my nature. I make items slowly and mindfully, by hand, so you will get a piece which is truly a one off- I’m definitely not about mass production ( go elsewhere if you want that!).
