About Starr Woodwork

Starr Woodwork

A Father and Son on a Woodworking journey!

Thank you for visiting our Folksy shop.

Our items are made at our workshop by myself, Ben (Dad) and my youngest son Charlie, who is 13.
Charlie is a keen footballer and darts player.

He is home educated as he found the academic system very difficult and struggled to settle at senior school which impacted his mental health significantly.

Soon after we removed him from school, we developed a plan for his onward education. This includes having a private tutor visit him 3 times a week for lessons.

My wife and Charlie's mum, Alice spends many hours with him teaching practical skills such as cooking, cleaning along with other domestic skills. She also regularly takes him on educational trips. All this while running her own business and supporting the wider family.

I have a full time job which means that my time is limited. I felt that I wasn't supporting as much as I could be. Corporate stress and challenges regularly leave me tired, unmotivated and with little energy.

However, one of my passions has always been woodworking. My Grandad was a carpenter and I feel like this is in me as well. Charlie is a very practical, hands-on child so we thought we'd give Woodworking a go. During the process of setting up this venture, Charlie is learning website design and practical skills when we build the various items in the Products page.

Charlie already has a great work ethic but we are keen that he learns that you need to put effort in to make money so by doing this, he will understand the value and the work required to achieve it in a way that he enjoys while learning valuable skills for life.
