I'm Jean, I design greetings cards and gift tags, each one is individually made by hand in my craftroom. My aim is to create unique cards, that offer a wider choice and are different to those found in the high street or shopping centre. My biggest love is colour and texture and I enjoy working with different art materials. Many of the designs are taken from my original handpainted sketches and drawings, some incorporate heat-embossing, stencilling, stamping and letterpressing and have some have 3D dimension. I like to change things up and add lots of detail, particularly when creating background features, like sky and countryside. I use archival inks and blending brushes a lot, it makes each background different and unique.
I am very lucky to live in a lovely coastal area, it's inspiring, specially the colours of nature and the light. It's great being out and about and I find it uplifting to have easily accessible coastal and forest walks nearby. I have to admit I am a sucker for endearing images of wildlife and like to incorporate this if I can. I also look at fabric for ideas, textured card, paper with linen and vintage fabric inspired designs. I do have a dedicated craft room, but it's overseen by a fussy feline! She's demanding to say the least and sits on high, keeping a critical eye! It does mostly feel like it's her space, not mine, but what can I say, I love her anyhow!
