I create images that reflect my love of observing the changing seasons and recognising the spirit of a place. I live in the seaside town of Whitstable in Kent where the sunsets are stunning, the seascape is ever changing and the fish and chips are great!
I trained as a Spatial Designer at the Kent Institute of Art and Design, (now the University of Creative Arts), Rochester many moons ago and revisited the campus fairly recently to gain my Master of Arts in Design. I use a project based process to create my work that involves walking in nature, observation and recording. I sketch, paint, photograph, write and create prints from my walks to remember the experience. These observations are recorded in many 'reflective journals' that in turn inspire new artwork.
Recently I created some pewter mini sculptures by casting using cuttlefish bone, they were exhibited at this years Canterbury Festival in the Artists Open Studios event in a cabinet of curiosity alongside gilded plaster-cast moulds of specific terrain, carved wax totemic birds and handmade clay bowls.
