Hi everyone. I'm Trudie Wells and I was born and bred in Surrey and moved to deepest darkest Devon (not really!!) in 2004 with my lovely hubby and we just love living here in the countryside and also we're only about 20 miles from the North Cornish coast so benefit from both country and seaside. We have a few backyard hens - they have great personalities and are such fun to watch and of course we don't have to buy any eggs - thanks to Hetty, Hilda, Maud and Princess Layer, a Skyline with quite a comical comb who lays us very pretty pale blue/green eggs!
I work part-time as Practice Medical Secretary in a small local rural GP Surgery quite close to home, a job I've been doing for many years now here and before we moved. I'm also training to do phlebotomy within the surgery which I'm quite excited about too which just goes to show you're never too old to learn something new.
My Mum and Nan taught me to knit as a child and I used to love having a go on my Mum's old hand cranked Singer sewing machine and playing doctors and nurses with the tin of sewing machine 'feet' ! I did do needlework in senior school but decided not to take the subject at 'O' level. My Nan used to paint and my Mum took it up during her retirement. My Dad was also quite talented and any letters he sent were always adorned with lovely little drawings. I suppose you could say I was surrounded by arty and crafty stuff growing up, although it didn't mean too much to me at the time.
I started making jewellery for myself some years before we moved to Devon and sold a few pieces to friends and colleagues and that's where it all began. After we moved to Devon I started attending craft fairs locally with my jewellery. I can't remember why but I started experimenting sewing a few items - blew the cobwebs off the sewing machine which hadn't seen the light of day for a few years and haven't looked back! I still have the old Singer sewing machine but have progressed to an electric one these days!
I just love making and crafting, also baking - I made my daughter's wedding cake back in 2012 and my son and his fiancée have asked me to make a naked wedding cake for their wedding this year, a bit daunting but I know I'll enjoy doing it!
I hope you enjoy looking at my makes. Please do not hesitate to make contact if you need to ask anything.
