I create fibre felted jewellery, large and small wall hangings, sculptural pieces and masks using my vast and colourful collection of wool, plant fibres and up-cycled materials. Sometimes incorporating stitch into the textural surface.
I especially enjoy making brooches which are like mini wearable paintings.
I started out as a designer then morphed into a community artist/educator, running workshops for many diverse projects. Murals, mosaics, big felted wall hangings, masks, willow lanterns and giant textile creations for celebration parades.
Recently I moved into a studio in a beautiful converted chapel in Yorkshire. Where I also run felt-making and needle felting workshops.
Some of my artwork has been inspired by a very memorable Artists’ residency on the Shetland Isles - a truly amazing, captivating experience. Staying in a wind swept lighthouse, high on the cliffs surrounded by wild seas with the resonating echoes of sea birds and puffins - right up on the Southern tip of the Isles.
I love vibrant, lively colour combinations and abstracted irregular forms.
