Notebooks and journals handmade in Orkney

After many years visiting the beautiful islands of Orkney for our holidays, my husband and I made the decision to relocate and we quickly settled into a new way of life. I have always loved making things and here, inspired by the many and varied crafters in Orkney, I found myself exploring skills such as calligraphy, linocut printing, photography and bookbinding. Taking time to develop my skills has resulted in a passion for creating the notebooks, journals, sketchbooks and photo albums which I am proud to offer for sale.

All of my books are made from scratch. From the folding of the carefully-selected paper to the stitching of the spines, every single part is crafted by hand. Where possible, I buy the cotton fabrics used as the cover materials from local suppliers and am also experimenting with some tie-dye techniques to develop a collection of hand-dyed covers which will be unique and individual. The only pre-made book blocks I buy are diary and address book inserts from Ratchfords bookbinding suppliers.
