Hi, I’m Manda, a queer, neurodivergent, chronically ill/disabled creative from Southeast England.
I’ve recently returned to jewellery making and crafting, after a health-related few months off turned into several years, because I really missed it. Returning has been a joyful experience. Creativity is good for the soul, for the brain, and to keep my hands busy when I’m not writing.
Deciding to return was in part a decision made for practical reasons. Changes in my health have meant working outside of home is no longer an option. I needed something to fill my time, and hopefully pay a few bills, that I could be truly passionate about doing.
A lot of my inspiration comes from nature. I’m fascinated by the way insects, birds, and plants use colour, and like to incorporate that into my work. The rest of my inspiration comes from staring at beads until combinations form in my head. I like a little shine and sparkle, and anything that plays with the light in interesting ways.
I enjoy finding the right technique and the right colour and texture pairings to show off the beads, so I use a mix of cords, wires, and beading wires, depending on the project. I’m always experimenting with different techniques and different materials, so keep checking back to see what’s new.
