About Nanuk Jewellery

Nanuk Jewellery

Unique and high quality hand made silver jewellery, incorporating stones, beads and wire wrapping.

All the jewellery you see here has been designed and hand made by Louise at home in the small town of Saffron Walden, just outside Cambridge. After completing my Silversmithing, Goldsmithing & Jewellery degree at Kent Institute of Art & Design in Rochester, I spent some time working at a local jewellers before I began designing, making and selling my own jewellery, including undertaking commissions.

Much of the inspiration for my work is taken from the magnificent book illustrations of the late nineteenth/early twentieth centuries, particularly the works of Kay Nielsen, Edmund Dulac and Arthur Rackham. I try to convey the opulent detail and colour of these illustrations by using lots of wire-wrapping and brightly coloured stones and beads. The stories themselves, myths and fairy tales also frequently provide me with inspiration, as well as things I have read, seen, watched - almost anything really! I am always looking for new ideas and am very happy to undertake commissions, including wedding jewellery, so please feel free to contact me about any ideas you have in mind. I also do rethreading work, to repair, maintain or refashion stone bead or pearl necklaces, including fully knotted pearl necklaces.
