I am transgender artist I make a variety of items from feather hair, head, clips & bands, Copper & Brass jewelry, Punch needle embroidery, Acrylic paintings, Ink pressed canvases, Sand art on canvases, & other canvas wall art.
My feathers come either from online or the local butchers I clean the feathers before using them in my pieces The idea of each clip or band of how it should look when fished comes to me as i make each one. Some I stained using vegetable based tattoo inks as i find it gives a very nice vibrant coloring to the feathers & you are still able to see the natural patterning of the feathers as well as leaving them with there natural fluffiness to the touch. I use clips glued to the back with an industrial glue to hold the clips firm & use findings, fabric & other bits to decorate the fronts.
The copper & Brass jewelry I draw a design first then with a jewelry saw cut out the design from a piece or copper or brass. Depending on the piece i am making some i them texture before cutting out. Once I have cut the design out i file down any sharp edges.If i want them to look old I put them through an ageing process.
Punch needle embroidery I transfer the design onto fabric before making. Once the design is finished. I then cut of the excess fabric & either stitch or glue fabric or felt to the back of the design. i make into either sew on patches, coasters, fridge magnets, or hanging wall pieces
Ink pressed canvases. I use vegetable based tattoo ink to press feathers, leaves, or other objects onto a canvas.
