Vicky - Maker of bright, colourful and cheery glass, also an open water swimmer!

Well what to say, always a tough one, do I blow my own trumpet or hide behind a tree?
Those who know me will probably say I do a little of both so here goes:

I'm still not sure what I want to do when I grow up but the last 50 years have been a blast as I try to figure this one out! Fortunately whilst my jobs have been full time, they are regular hours leaving weekends and holidays free to explore many crafts - and I have explored a lot. The lightbulb moment came on a significant birthday when I asked for a small kiln to do pendants, a little one will do I thought as I'll only be dabbling - mmmm should've known better. Six months and one course later I'd outgrown that kiln and upgraded to a bigger one, this one saw me thru' the next 5 years, countless craft fairs and the start of my workshop.

A few years back we moved to a property in Worcestershire that had an old barn at the top of the garden which had been used as a workshop - I quickly put my name on this! In here I have space to have my kilns and supplies and not worry about clearing the table to seat down for tea - I'm a very lucky girl.

I don't do subtle particularly well so the glass colours suit my personality down to the ground, the brighter and bolder the better! I don't have a particular style, I like to dabble in different techniques which can give a rather eclectic range of items but it does mean that a lot are one offs.

Living in the beautiful Worcestershire countryside gives me plenty of inspiration, the colours, the hedgerows, the scenery, even the people can all spark off ideas. I'll go out for a walk and once back it can be straight into the workshop to try out a new combination that I've just seen in the hedge or glimpsed on a bird.

The real surprise is how influenced by water some of my pieces are, considering we are probably the furthest away from the coast in any direction! However I'm fortunate to have a swimming lake close by along with a couple of main rivers so open water swimming does help with this I'm sure.
