About Hark Arts & Crafts

Hark Arts & Crafts

i make things

i was born in Manchester, to a family of artists, crafters and musos who have always encouraged me to create. i've been a painter, sculptor, pencil crayon illustrator, knitter and needle felter - and any day now i'll find the next stuff i want to make things out of.

So far felting is the best. It's a midpoint between painting and sculpting, with a nicer tactile feeling than either. i like wool - seeing an animal grow it, then taking it, altering it, and making it into something as beautiful as the original creature. i like working on projects all the time - if i'm sitting still i'm felting something.

My ideas come from genre fiction, medieval manuscripts, and a connection to nature (i live in the Bannau Brycheiniog, it's hard not to be inspired really). My materials are often locally sourced or thrifted (i love a charity shop). i have yet to work out how to felt with cat fluff, which is a shame, because this house is full of it.

You can see me and my cat in acts of craft @harkart on the 'gram.
