From a young age I have always had a desire to make things or to understand how things are made and work. I think this was down to my father who was very practical both in his work and at home with DIY hobbies and activities.
Now, when I'm not so young, I have some time to focus on crafts and hobbies that have been on the back-burner for a while.
My careers have always been in the technical/scientific side of manufacturing industries - chemical, electronics and renewable energy but focused on the design and problem solving to improve processes.
My view is that science and art or crafts cannot be separated - they all intermingle. I gained a Masters degree from Leeds University Colour Chemistry department and worked for 20 years assessing and measuring colour in the chemical industry.
For my 40th birthday my wife bought me a set of six lessons with a local artist as in introduction to watercolour painting; this progressed into many years with the same artist progressing to oil painting which I really found fulfilling. Pressures of work caused my painting efforts to diminish but I now have started to pick the brushes up again so may be adding a few paintings to the listing at some point.
In recent years I have been focussed more on woodcrafts and wood/acrylic turning projects. Over the years I have accumulated a selection of wood offcuts, discarded worktops, tree branches etc etc which I am now starting to turn into jewellery/artistic items. Everything I make is individual and handmade either by turning, carving or using hand guided tools - No automated CNC or Laser process.
