Mouldy old veg made into stunning lamps!

Hi, I’m Amanda, the maker behind Gorgeous Gourds. I create one-of-a-kind home décor and lighting from home-grown gourds, each piece designed, carved and finished entirely by hand here in Essex.
Gourds are part of the pumpkin and squash family. When grown and dried, they form a beautifully hard natural shell, making them a sustainable and long-lasting material for art. From seed to finished piece, my gourds take nearly two years to grow, dry and transform — no two are ever the same.
My work ranges from decorative pieces to statement lamps, often inspired by places I love, coastal towns, architecture and mid-century style. Every gourd has its own character, and I embrace the natural curves, markings and quirks rather than trying to make them uniform.
I grow my gourds in my polytunnel and handcraft each piece slowly and thoughtfully, focusing on quality, individuality and originality rather than mass production. When you buy one of my pieces, you’re choosing something truly unique — made to be enjoyed, talked about and treasured.
