Textile nerd from North Yorkshire

My fascination with textiles and sewing began as a child when I would be allowed the offcuts from clothes alterations to play with. Something as simple as a shirt sleeve cut off could (in my 5 year old mind) become a really cool long plaid flannel waistcoat with a dramatic collar for my Sindy doll. Every scrap could be something, I just needed to figure out what and how.
That has not left me, I still use every scrap I can. There is so much waste in the textile and fashion industries and an ever growing mountain of second hand textiles and fast fashion ending up in landfill. I try to use deadstock, vintage, remnants and scrap bundles as much as possible. Whilst I prefer to work with natural fibres and especially love cotton duck canvas, I enjoy the challenge of upcycling ultra fast fashion into bags and pouches in an effort to keep a little bit out of landfill a bit longer.

When I'm not hunched over a sewing machine I knit (badly) and have recently started learning to spin with a drop spindle (very badly). If either of the above can be done while wearing headphones and blasting some metal even better. I also like gaming and dusty old computers, which is where the shop name came from. A Glass Cannon is an rpg term used to describe a player character or enemy that does an insane amount of damage but can be very quickly defeated... much like myself.
