I've always sewn, having been taught by my mother and grandmother, a trained tailoress; so when I decided that the time had come to move on from my job I decided to take the opportunity to use these skills and started CatkinJane.
I spent a year or two making a variety of textile items but then found my passion - ties! The first ties were made at the request of my brother-in-law who was looking for something more interesting to wear for work than the offerings on the high street. After much research on suitable fabrics I settled on using Liberty's tana lawns - with their fantastic range there is a fabric to suit almost everyone's taste, everything from their famous florals and paisleys to fun prints and from classic to modern.
I now spend my time making ties and other accessories, often for people's weddings, and love spending my time creating something useful from beautiful fabrics.
