“Decorative heirloom accessories for a mouse house”
I’m Caroline, a textile designer with a love of hand embroidery, quilting and crochet. I make pretty things for mouse houses from quilted bedding, crochet blankets, bunting, embroidered cushions, mouse handbags to mouse skirts. After leaving my career in hand embroidery and having my daughter I found I wanted to still be creative but work on a smaller scale. My Dad, who had clearly been listening very hard to my chatting about how much I wanted a mouse house, presented me with one he had made. I spent nap times sewing miniature quilts and ten years later I now make a variety of items suitable for the grownup collectors.
I use beautiful liberty of London fabric in my quilts and use special vintage linens given to me by my grandmothers. I make my own trims and incorporate as many details as possible. Due to safety regulations my quilts, crocheted blankets and embroidered items are only suitable for grown up collectors and are not suitable for children.
I grew up in small village in North Yorkshire and spent most of my free time with my grandmothers and my mum who were avid sewers and I suspect that their creativity must have rubbed off on me. As well as being inspired by my grandmothers and mum my inspiration also comes from woodland walks with my hairy dog, my garden and childhood memories.
I think it is very important to be able to create something that everyone can afford which is well made. My aim is to produce products which are a little bit different from the usual; maybe a bit quirky but overall something that is affordable and beautiful. Handmade shouldn’t necessarily be regarded as a luxury but as an essential.
