About Beca Beeby Jewellery and Metalwork.

Beca Beeby Jewellery and Metalwork.

Sustainably made Jewellery & Ceramics. Hand formed, carved, forged or cast in recycled silver, bronze & porcelain.

I am a blacksmith and cast iron artist turned small-scale: making sculpture, jewellery and vessels in recycled silver, bronze and porcelain. With a childhood in Bristol and then South Wales, where I live. I have a huge love of nature, particularly plants and insects & other natural forms I around me, many of which I study using microscopy and macro photography. My studio is set in my mini-forest garden, where every plant is edible, medicinal or useful. I keep bees and ducks there too, as well as our 2 cats & a dog (who are not very useful!) I am very lucky to live close to woodlands full of moss, lichen, old ruins & giant ants!

I am slightly obsessed with the morphogenetic forms found in honeycomb; insect wings; plant cell structure; bubbles and rock formations, to name but a few: I find this occurrence incredibly beautiful and the fact that is the strongest and most economical use of a material, and occurs in so many places, is almost miraculous.
I am predominantly a 3D artist, working in metals and ceramics, but I also enjoy printmaking and experimenting with process and material. Other passions are self sufficiency, foraging, folktales, sustainable food and environmental issues, which inspire the more conceptual side of my work.

My jewellery pieces are gender neutral, varying from delicate to statement pieces, the silver finished with a frosted silver or oxidised black surface. My new collection ‘Artefact’ is inspired by my previous work and exploration, and made in cast & forged bronze with a deep turquoise blue. At each step, the environmental impact of what I do is considered: from recycled materials and packaging, to non-toxic acids and a solar powered workshop, the world that inspires me is incredibly important in my work. My curiosity and playful exploration of the natural world has been the strong driving-force behind my work since my studies at Hereford Art College and Bretton Hall (Leeds University).
