Jo Reed @ Beadtopia Studio
Unapologetically Northern I was born and raised on the edge of the Pennines. I am never happier than when surrounded by rugged hills, whippets and cups of tea.
I am very lucky to be able to split my time between the Yorkshire Dales and the north of Manchester. The Dales for inspiration and then the Manchester worker bee takes over once I am home.
My designs therefore draw on rugged nature but also a sense of the heritage.
I discovered a love of glass as a child, being fascinated with my grandmother’s vintage dressing table sets.
Years later after making jewellery as I hobby I was delighted to take a lampworking course and shortly afterwards a glass fusing course. I never looked back, setting up my glass studio shortly afterwards.
Around 2015 I took silversmithing classes and more recently I have revisited this and enhanced my skills with silver and metal clay.
My aim is for my jewellery to be both beautiful and tactile. I achieve this by focusing on texture alongside design. So touching your jewellery becomes part of the joy of wearing it.
