Full description
A chunky square dish glazed in shades of blue, turquoise and cream which I cut from white stoneware clay and handshaped into a shallow form with upturned corners.
During the Raku process (first practised in Japan) pots are first fired to about 1000 degrees C before being glazed. They are then refired to 1000 degrees and transferred red-hot to a drum of wood shavings which promptly ignite. With the drum closed, the fire extracts oxygen from both glaze and clay. The intense thermal shock creates the desired crazing. Smoke penetrating the glaze enhances the crackles. Unglazed surfaces turn grey/black. The process is exciting, yet always unpredictable. The results are usually very striking.
Not for hot food, neither oven nor dishwasher safe.

POSTAGE
I usually dispatch parcels using Royal Mail's tracked delivery service. If several items are shipped together, I only charge the actual cost incurred and refund overpayment via Paypal.
