I love kimonos and am fascinated by the fact that a whole kimono is constructed from just one roll of fabric called a silk bolt or 'tanmono'. It is an exact length and width and nothing gets wasted. This in turn denotes the finished size of my cushions! The kimono is in serious decline in Japan and I am looking to save tiny parts of their amazing history.

Full description
A luxurious and striking cushion handmade from hand-printed purple kimono silk with a creamy-gold coloured diamond star design. The reverse of the cushion is also in a cream and purple geometric pattern. This cushion really has two fronts! (Reverse shown in main image.)
This unique cushion has been made from two pieces of cloth taken from rare and genuine japanese kimono dating from the 1970's. (No kimonos were injured during the making of this cushion - all fabric is taken from damaged and un-weareable kimono!)
All commissions considered - I can make you cushion of the cream geometric fabric on both sides or the purple fabric on both sides!
I hope you can display and enjoy this cushion as if a beautiful work of art or sculpture. Much of the cloth I use is hand embroidered or hand-printed and I think this is a wonderful way of preserving such an ancient and revered craft.

Has a duck feather filler and non-removebale cover.
