Handmade pottery mugs set of four - woodland frog mugs glazed in pepper yellow
Description
Set of four stoneware frog mugs glazed in pepper yellow. Handmade Stoneware Pottery by littlewrenpottery on Folksy.
Originally before the 1700's a popular joke was to put a live toad into an unsuspecting drinkers ale. The live frog was later replaced with a ceramic one within the interior of the mug which appeared poised to leap down the drinkers throat!
Sunderland became well know for it's distinctive frog mugs, a tradition which can hopefully be carried on.
These four hand thrown mugs have been decorated in a speckled yellow pepper glaze and white inside making them easier to clean. Their gently fluted shape features a smooth finish which was created by skimming the surface to remove the throwing rings as it was being made.
Each one features a small handmade frog in the bottom, a sturdy pulled handle to support the weight of the cup and a flat bottom hand to sit firmly on your table. Each mug has also been hand stamped with the Little Wren Pottery seal on the bottom to mark them out as handcrafted items.
These mugs can be cleaned in the dishwasher.
