During this time I was painting a lot of Bamboo designs and while researching some Chinese art I found a wood block print from 1800 that I really liked. There is certainly a great similarity in the scenery portrayed in Wood block art & Scottish scenery in terms of craggy pine trees and rivers. We certainly have a great mythology about the salmon, as the China & Japan have for the carp so I translated the print into this design showing a reaching pine branch and the shape of a fish using slight brush marks to indicate the water and movement.
The white glass has a very smooth gentle texture which adds to the overall movement without being overpowering.
