I have handcrafted this lovely pendant from glass seed beads in iridescent shades of teal, blue, purple and plum, with a combination of frosted and shiny textures, creating a bezel framing a beautiful shimmering blue paua shell cabochon. I have accented it with a fringe in matching iridescent seed and bugle beads, and faceted Czech fire-polished glass beads.
The pendant is backed with black Ultrasuede® and measures approximately 25mm wide and 75mm long from the top of the bead-stitched bail to the very bottom of the fringe. It is strung onto a necklace made from 7 strands of narrow satin ribbon in coordinating colours, which fastens with a gunmetal trigger clasp and extender chain, terminating in a matching faceted Czech fire-polished glass bead; and is fully adjustable from approximately 16 to 19 inches. The necklace has been designed so the pendant sits just below the collarbones, however it could easily be removed and strung onto something different.
It is difficult to capture all the beautiful iridescent colours of paua shell in a photograph; although the cabochon has been dyed a vibrant shade of blue it also reflects a rainbow of teals, greens and even a touch of purple depending on the angle it is viewed.
