Meet the maker Jeff Soan

In 1985 I encountered a wobbly rat at a friend's house. It was a South American folk toy and I was captivated by it's movement. My friend was at the London College of Furniture and told me there was a City and Guilds toy making course.there. Desperate for a change from the self employed building work I had been doing for the previous 17 years I enrolled, eventually becoming a qualified toymaker and started a business making and selling toys at Greenwich Craft market.
With my background in Art ( Goldsmiths College) my work developed away from traditional toys and became more sculptural.so that they are seen now more as artworks and have appeared in galleries all over the country.
