Meet the maker Sarah Allman

Hello and thank you for visiting my little corner of the interweb :) I love to create tiny little things and often work under magnification to get fine details into my items. I like to experiment with new media and can often spend hours staring at single pieces trying to make them as perfect as I can. I am fascinated by accuracy and details in artisic depiction and have a great love of botanical and anatomical drawings.

During the day I also work with microscopic sugary things but in a different context - I work in a lab specialising in the chemical synthesis of complex carbohydrates for probing of biological interactions; looking at the importance of sugars for living systems and design carbohydrate based theraputics. I love my job and find it fascinating, although one day I'd like to run a cake shop somewhere! I came to the conclusion a long time ago that art and science really are the same thing - experiments - simply picking up an object and thinking "I wonder what would happen if..."

I aim to get items out as soon as I can, but it may take a bit longer over the weekend. I might take a couple of extra days too if you have asked me to modify or customise an item. Folksy asks me to ship within three working days, and I endevour to meet this deadline. Should I exceed this, I will contact you to explain and check that you are still happy. Custom orders may take longer; but I will keep you updated at each step of the process. I do not accept or expect payment for custom orders until the order is complete, photographed and listed on the site ready for purchase - I need to know for my own peace of mind that you are happy with it before I send it to you! I make all of my normal stock items in small groups, so there may be small variations between those sent (as I only photograph one of them), but they will be as close as possible to that pictured. With some of the colours, especially those I mix myself, they may vary a touch between production runs.

Returning items - If you have any problems with your purchase, please let me know so I can rectify the situation. I am more than happy to accept returns on all of my items within fourteen days provided they are unworn and come back intact with the gift packing; the return address is given on each packet I send out. Please note I do not resell returned items, so even if you wish to return things like earrings then that's fine; it's important to me that you are happy with your purchase. Upon receipt of the returned item, the cost of the item and the original postage charged at the point of sale (but not the return postage) will be refunded by the same method used to pay originally (normally paypal). If you do wish to return an item, please do pack it securely and pick up a free proof of posting certificate from the post office when you send it off. I'm happy to answer any questions about returns you may have, so do feel free to message me with any queries.

Wrapping and packing: Okay (hands in the air) I admit it, I love wrapping things - I'm one of these obessive people who spends ages giftwrapping stuff so I can play with the shiny ribbons and the pretty string. I most often send items out either in little boxes or wrapped in cellophane so they are ready to give as gifts. I make all my little packing boxes myself, so they might vary depending on the card stock I have in and how bored I am of any one particular style. You may find random sparkly things scattered in your package if I am in a glitter and glue mood :) If you have any queries or special requests for packing, I am happy to see what I can do.

General shipping: I use a variety of recycled and new bubble wrap bags and boxes for posting - this is mainly for environmental reasons because I hate to see so many go in the waste (and it saves me having to dismember them to get them in the recycling). It also keeps the shipping costs down. If I overestimate shipping (sometimes this happens if you pay for things separately and I send them together) I will refund the excess. I will do likewise if you live close enough for me to pop it through your door. I will always get proof of posting for my items, so if it doesn't arrive, please message me and I will do the chasing. Likewise if anything gets damaged in transit. It is up to me to ensure you get your item and I am fully responsible for it until it is in your hands. If you would like items sent by recorded mail or faster services, do let me know and I will be happy to arrange that.

International shipping: I am happy to ship overseas, I do it a lot anyway when I send things to friends and relatives who seem to be scattered everywhere these days - so I'm not short of airmail stickers and customs forms. I have to display a flat rate for this service but if the postage works out less than this, I will refund the difference through paypal once the item is shipped, it's only fair. Please note that you will be responsible for any customs or duty accrued as a result of importing items. I am required legally to give an accurate description of the contents of your package and the value written in the box has to be the amount that you paid for the item.

These items are sold for use as fashion accessories (costume jewellery) or in the case of things like photo frames as home accessories and they aren't toys. These items are not edible and small items do present a choking hazard so please don't put them in your mouth or eat them. Please be aware that they aren't suitable for children as they contain small parts, glass, jewellery findings and in the case of things like brooches, pins. All business conducted is in accordance with UK law.

Please note; I adore making teeny weeny items, but I don't make actual sized replicas of anything - so please don't ask me.
