Meet the maker Lindsey (AKA Spare Makery)
I started Spare with all the collected, reclaimed and salvaged materials that I had gathered around me like a magpie. The books were the beginning of this really - made entirely from reclaimed paper stocks, some from the studios I'd worked in, samples from paper merchants, and a mass of envelopes which I 'd collected as I loved the repeat designs on the insides. Some lovely people also collected for me, once they'd seen the books.
I've always been a maker (and a fixer/repairer), so it's nice to pursue this as part of the Folksy community. I also enjoy buying from other Folksy sellers, supporting crafting, designer makers and small traders.
Spare offers a great and necessary outlet from the day job where I work as a professional Graphic Designer. Creating my own work gives me the space and time to work in a more organic and free thinking way.
In sourcing the aim is to make use of responsibly sourced stock and materials, following the principles of upcycling where possible. This is especially so for the books which are made from 100% re-purposed or salvaged paper stocks.
Carefully chosen materials, are hand worked meaning the finished items come with buckets of character and charm. Ecclectic, colourful and textural. The range of items is ever evolving, the magpie instinct continues.
