Meet the maker Penny Spooner

I always used to go to night classes to learn about new subjects or skills - psychology, photography, piano, & so on... and really enjoyed them all, but then I discovered ceramics and it was instant love! My tutor was brilliant at not only teaching, but encouraging us to experiment.

Everything I make is either hand-built or thrown on the wheel in porcelain. The inside is usually glazed in a speckled colour so reminiscent of those delicious mini eggs we get at Easter. The outside is either clear glazed (perhaps with a little decoration!) or left unglazed for a textural contrast. I love to experiment with printing, slip decoration & decals, and ideas are all around.

I am now lucky enough to have a small studio in my home town in Hampshire where I spend my weeks in enjoying the whole process of designing and making my pots and running workshops.
